Critical Thinking in UKSW from Matt

Critical Thinking and listening: Practical ideas to enhance listening comprehension

Project Highlights: As part of a seminar entitled “Critical thinking in language learning,” junior English Language Fellow, Matthew Pizzorno, directed a teacher-training workshop for 30 local university, high school, and elementary school instructors on incorporating critical thinking and listening comprehension skills in their second language classrooms. Highlights of workshop included a brief outline of current theories and practices concerning incorporating critical thinking and listening skills in the second language classroom. This was followed by a discussion on practical lessons and activities the participants could take back and utilize with their students. The participants were asked to email the Fellow in the future if they use any of the materials presented in the workshop. It is hoped, that this will stimulate a dialogue between the participants and the presenter on current practices in second language teaching.
