What Up Yall - from Matt
What up Yall,
I hope all is well and you are energized after the Jogya conference. I definitely am. It is always great to see all of you and I came away from the conference with some new ideas and a few good contacts for future programs. Anyway, I had been meaning to send the following attachments for awhile but for some reason or another...it didn’t happen. Anyway, attached are two fellow highlights on a Critical thinking workshop and a program at the American Corner in Semarang. Both Mike and Kevin were involved in both so, of course, they were a smashing success. I hope you like them.
This past week has been somewhat hectic for me. I have been busy teaching (8 classroom hrs yesterday) and getting a materials bank ready for the Dosen in the education faculty. This last idea came from the work Mike did in Makassar last year and since I had collected a ton of stuff (books in the box, materials I have bought and or taken from back home in the states, stuff I purchased here), I thought it would be a good idea to set up a sort of mini-library. The only problem I am having is trying to keep the Dosen from photocopying everything. Anyway, we are going to have an opening/materials development workshop on the 28th of Dec. I am hoping that my counterpart and I can convince the Dosen to meet once or twice a month in order to continue developing the materials bank. We shall see.
On a personal level, my blues band played this last weekend and of course we were fantastic. Sony asked me to go on a world tour but I told them that I am an English Language Fellow and their millions of dollars meant nothing to me. Hmmm....Well actually, I did meet a guy who wants help us buy equipment and play more regularly. I really enjoy this as I had forgotten how much fun it is to play in front of people.. Ok, that is all. I hope all is well and I can’t wait until the midyear conference.
best, Matthew
